The gauntlet has been thrown and it’s time to find out which running crew rules Durban in the first annual Battle of the Communities next Saturday 23/08/25. Today is about celebrating the phenomenal ladies that I’ve been lucky enough to come across and more importantly who look fierce in their red and white stripes. Today I celebrate the incredible women of @westvilleathleticclub As a runner in the making I am constantly inspired and impressed by the phenomenal athletes that I am lucky enough to cross paths with. Each person has such a unique story that impacts them and everyone around them. Running may be an individual sport but it’s those around us that help us tackle each obstacle one step at a time. For the month of August, given that it’s Women’s Month, I’ve decided to share and celebrate the phenomenal women who inspire me to keep on keeping on. Thursday mornings are for easy runs on the Promenade followed by some @get.revive. The custom box is SUCH a mood and the merch is to die for 😍. Now I am very much an Apple, Blood Orange and Watermelon girl but variety is the spice of life. Stumbling block after stumbling block and what feels like a never ending obstacle course in life 🫠. This @strava #YearinSport is an awesome reminder of the victories along the way this year. I am lucky enough to be surrounded by some amazing inspiration, @kerrykoen and her patience and advice that always just makes the training a little bit better, the opportunity to watch, cheer and support the forever incredible @jo_keppler @ferne_kalamer @gerda_steyn @j9_nortje @genevievemichau @carolynditchburn @mommamac_runs and @ann.ashworth. The never ending competition for the WAC Track Wreath between myself @kelstrachs and @stevengossman 😎 is one that will continue well into next year! So while 2024 may not have been the best… 2025 better watch out because this #BossBitch is coming back hard. Starting off with my favourite running adventure with @meghanking89 and the @beloved_long_runs_ N3 roaming adventure, there was the formation of #OneTeamOneDream with @iainrobbo14, who played a massive role in the successful completion of my first marathon. @cjmdeoliveira @pmsymington and @kelstrachs who helped me finally achieve a sub-60 10km at the @chillierunners 10km. I’ve been lucky enough to get to know @j9_nortje and play Pom Pom as she killed it at @comradesmarathon, earning her first #BillRowan. @meghanking89 and Shaun trusting me with seconding duties on their first Comrades run (definitely a contender for my favourite day of the year). Being able to see @ferne_kalamer take on trail and just smash it and building new friendships in the process. @stevengossman sharing his GOM wisdom has never disappointed 👨🏻‍🌾. Taking the leap with @team.ashworth and learning from my epic coach @ann.ashworth pushed me and I ran my first ultra, and learned so many lessons that, even when I didn’t quite hit my @karklooftrailrun goals, I have walked out the other side a stronger person and more determined runner for it. A very special shout out to @d_nortje who seconded me through my @karklooftrailrun adventure and was nothing short of brilliant, legit not enough words to express the gratitude 🙏🏻 . @modernathletemag took a chance on me and published two of my stories (with hopefully loads more to come). 2023 hasn’t always been easy but it’s laid the foundation for 2024 and the goals that lay ahead 😎. Thank you to everyone who has been along for the ride (don’t want to keep you all here til 2025) I can’t wait to see where the road takes us 🥳 When an easy run turns into a mental cookie 🍪 run. The heat was murder and it wasn’t where I wanted to be pace wise but there isn’t a run I ever regret, and at the very least some great exposure to a course that is fairly important in the near future 😎.
